About GoMRC
GoMRC offers a set of search, analysis and visualization tools that can be used to explore coastal management surrounding SAV and mangroves habitats. To help demonstrate these capabilities, GoMRC developed a toolset to help resource managers and other stakeholders better understand factors that influence submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) habitat and support the implementation of appropriate SAV restoration decisions. GoMRC also developed a preliminary conceptual model of the causes and effects of Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) in the Gulf of Mexico.
With support from NASA Stennis Space Center during 2008-2009, the GoMRC team integrated NASA’s COAST visualization tool with the GoMRC toolset and helped end users in the Mexican Gulf states of Veracruz and Campeche to leverage these tools for improved coastal resource decision-making. This effort has enabled binational collaboration and sharing of tools to support ecosystem-based management across the Gulf region.
